Dust fall-out monitoring equipment in South Africa
New ASTM D1739 compliant dust monitor solutions

Until recently, dust fall-out monitoring equipment, which adhered to the strict ASTM D1739–98
regulations, were difficult or nearly impossible to come by in South Africa.

Dustco wanted to make a difference...

Realising this need, Dustco set out to design and manufacture fall-out dust monitoring equipment in South Africa that were 100% compliant to the legislation pertaining to the “Standard Test Method for Collection and Measurement of Dustfall”.

Introducing Dustco’s ASTM Dust Monitors

Dust Monitoring Stands

Our dust fall-out stands are manufactured in South Africa from stainless steel. They are strong and durable and 100% compliant with the ASTM D1739-98 specifications.

Why fall-out dust monitoring needs to follow ASTM standards?

Dust is a generic term used to describe fine particles that are suspended in the atmosphere, which can be a major cause of nuisance, health and environmental effects. The measurement of the vertical flux of dust, also called dust deposition or dust fall-out, is one of many methods employed to monitor dust in an area. There are a number of standard vertical-gauge systems developed to measure dust deposition gravimetrically. South African legislation prescribes the use of the “Standard Test Method for Collection and Measurement of Dust-fall” as published by the ASTM (ASTM D1739 – 98 (Re-approved 2017)).

The specifications with regards to the buckets made them commercially unavailable in the South African market. As a result, many industry players used other bucket shapes and sizes as a compromise. Inevitably, these are all near-misses and recent legislative and auditing requirements have made it necessary for industries and mines to align more stringently with the ASTM specifications for both stands and buckets.
