Jacarandas Maljan takes a dip with Aquatico
As summer draws to an end, MalJan from Jacaranda FM’s Complimentary Breakfast Show was on a search for the best spots in Gauteng to go for a swim.
Not everyone is willing to pay to go for a swim in a public swimming pool, so MalJan went to some of the most well-known free spots in Gauteng. First up was Bruma Lake, near Boksburg. It was here that it became clear that the water in these swimming spots might not be as clean as he had hoped. From there he went to Zoo Lake in Johannesburg before going to locations along the Jukskei and Apies Rivers.
Aquatico analysed the four water samples brought in by the curious Jacaranda team. The water samples were analysed at Aquatico’s state of the art, SANAS accredited testing laboratory in Route 21 Office Park, based in Centurion, and confirmed the presence of Total coliform and E.coli bacteria, usually an indication of faecal pollution.
Back at Jacaranda FM offices, Ryno Erdmann, Aquatico’s Managing Director, was brought in to interpret the results on air. Ryno good-humouredly customized the results to fall in line with Riaan’s somewhat unconventional rating system.
At the end of the day, it seemed that some of the swimming spots are best left unexplored. Luckily MalJan survived the ordeal without getting sick!
